Tom Thumb – I Play Tag & Save $1000 giveaway

Tom Thumb is holding a “I Play Tag & Save” giveaway where you could win $1000 if your car is spotted at Tom Thumb with a special decal in the window. This giveaway is to promote their new everyday low pricing on thousands of products.

I have been trying to get one of these decals, but my Tom Thumb doesn’t have them out yet. Today I received an email that there are only three days left, and you can print the decal here.

Coupons found at Tom Thumb (Safeway)

I stopped by Tom Thumb today to get a flu shot and the 10% coupon. I did not realize the shot would cost $28!!! I’ve seen it for $20-24.99 at other locations so I wrongly assumed it would be in that range. Sheesh. Given how much more expensive Tom Thumb is, I should have known better!

Not only was it more expensive, but I also had to wait 20+ minutes before I got it, even though there were only two people in front of me who were just dropping off prescriptions. There were three people behind the counter, but only one helping customers, and she decided to help the woman BEHIND me before she entered my paperwork into the computer. She wasn’t even the person who gave the shot! Then she got the guy who would end up giving me the injection to help her get voicemail messages (how many TT pharmacy employees does it take to retrieve voicemail messages?) while I stood there waiting and wondering how I could escape and get my money back.

It’s definitely not worth going there to get the coupon for 10% off your next grocery trip, especially given that the coupon must be used within 7 days. And I doubt I will spend $80 in one transaction (it is $80 AFTER coupons!!) to make up for the extra money I paid for the flu shot and for the time I wasted waiting.

The only positive (besides getting it over with) was I didn’t feel the injection at all. I couldn’t believe it. Not even a prick! I am feeling some pain now, but I expected that.

After the injection was over, I decided to stroll through the aisles to look for coupons. I was waiting for my daughter to get out of her after-school activity, so I needed to kill some time.

I found a few interesting coupons at my Dallas-area store.

The first was on a breast cancer awareness display. It has a Safeway Foundation logo on it and includes these six coupons:

$1.00/2 – boxes of JELL-O Pudding & Pie Filling
$1.00/2 – NABISCO 100 Calorie Packs (Cookies or Crackers)
$1.00/1 – KRAFT Deluxe Macaroni & Cheese or VELVEETA Shells & Cheese Dinner (12-14 oz)
$1.00/1 – PLANTERS Nuts (9-16 oz)
$1.00/1 – SOUTH BEACH LIVING Cereal Bars (5 ct or larger)
$1.00/2 – CAPRI SUN Products (10 ct)

The coupons expire on 11/30/09.

In the pharmacy area, I spotted two rebates that I was excited about, but once I got home, I saw they expire on 9/30, so I Photoshopped them out of the image above.

In the coffee aisle, I found a Smartsource Blinkie machine with Buy One Get One free coupons for Dentyne. They expire 12/31, so if there are any B1G1 Free promos before then, it may mean two free Dentyne gums.

In the cheese case located in the deli area, there were three coupons for various cheeses. I have seen these before, but thought they expired last month. Either these are new, or I’m confused. They are:

$2.00/2 President Specialty Cheese Products
$2.00/2 President Specialty Cheese Products (same as above, but different cheese in photo)
$2.00/2 Mozzarella Fresca Specialty Cheese Products

The coupons all expire on 12/31/09.

On the Jelly Belly bulk candy display, I found a $1.00 off 1/2 lb. or more of bulk Jelly Belly Beans. It expires 12/31/09.

In the cleaning aisle, I found a hangtag for Lysol products that includes:

$1.00/1 LYSOL Disinfectant Spray
$1.00/1 LYSOL All Purpose Cleaner, Pour or Trigger
$1.00/1 LYSOL Disinfecting Wipes
$0.50/1 LYSOL Bathroom Cleaner
$0.75/1 LYSOL Cling 2in1

The coupons expire on 6/30/10.

And finally, I found a winetag that included these coupons:

$1.00/2 Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauces (10 fl oz or larger)
$1.00/2 Heinz 57 sauce (10 oz or larger)
$0.75/1 Heinz Cocktail Sauce

Unfortunately these all expire 9/30/09 too. Maybe there will be a deal in Wednesday’s ads.

Safeway/Tom Thumb store artisan bread for $0.25 with $10 min. purchase

I will be posting some deals at Albertsons, Walgreens and CVS later tonight. I didn’t see much new at Kroger, but will look again. Sorry for the delay!

Here’s a deal at Tom Thumb (& other Safeway stores). Go to their Facebook page and print a coupon for $0.25 Artisan French bread with a $10 minimum purchase. This goes from September 28 – October 2, limited to the first 20,000 customers. Looks like you must purchase the bread between 3PM and 7PM.

Don’t have a $10 minimum purchase? Get a gift card! (Thanks to TheCouponProject’s comment on Thrifty Northwest Mom’s blog suggesting this option and thanks to Thrifty Northwest Mom for posting the deal.)

10% off Tom Thumb/Safeway store grocery purchase with flu shot

UPDATE: This is NOT worth it unless you want to overpay for the flu shot AND you play to spend $80+ after coupons to make up for the extra cost of the shot. More here.

If you haven’t gotten your regular flu shot yet and are planning to, one option might be going to Tom Thumb. They’re giving out coupons for 10% off one transaction when you get a flu shot at their pharmacy. This appears to be available at all stores under the Safeway Corporate umbrella.

New Tom Thumb/Randalls Coupons?

I have had my Tom Thumb Rewards card for as far back as I can remember. But a few months ago, cashiers started thanking me by the name “New Customer”. I don’t know why my name was removed from my card, but I finally got around to connecting my name to the card again last week.

Tonight when I went to Tom Thumb, I got the coupons (which have Tom Thumb and Randalls logos on them) in the photo above. I’ve never gotten anything like this before. Is it because Tom Thumb thinks I’m a new customer who finally linked my name with my card? Or is this some sort of new promotion from Tom Thumb to encourage money-conscious customers to shop there?

The coupons that I received are:

$2 off when you spend $10.00 on laundry detergent and fabric conditioners in one transaction
$1.50 off when you spend $5.00 on disposable tableware in one transaction
$2.00 off when you spend $10.00 on paper towels in one transaction
$10 off when you spend $80 or more in one transaction (no mention of it having to be after coupons!)
$1.00 off when you buy any one Suave personal care (excluding 15 oz shampoo/conditioner)

The coupons expire August 4, 2009 and must be used at Tom Thumb. Other than that and what I listed next to each coupon, there are no other conditions (such as ‘cannot be combined with any other offer’) so I think they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons.

Does anyone know anything about these coupons?
