5dollardinners.com class

For those of you who attended Erin’s $5 dinner class today,

welcome to my blog!

I will be posting some grocery deals at Tom Thumb, Kroger and Albertsons later today. These will include any products I find that have coupons in this Sunday’s paper. Please check back or enter your email address in the “Get updates via email” box to the right and you will receive one email per day with my latest findings.

Get a list of my favorite coupon and money-saving resources. I have temporarily added “DFW” next to the ones that are local. I am working on a more comprehensive list for the area. If you know of a Web site that isn’t listed here, please let me know.

Check the links to the right under “Categories” to see my shopping trips by store as well as to find other money-saving (or money making) opportunities.

I stopped by the Container Store on my way back to Dallas to look for the magnetic fridge calendar that Erin showed us. It’s $16.99. As I was standing in line to pay, I overheard the customer in front of me ask if she could use the 20% coupon more than once. So I asked about the coupon and learned that the Oprah Messy House show re-aired last week and the 20% off coupon is available again! It is valid until March 1, and cannot be used on sale merchandise, so I put back the fridge calendar and just purchased two items on sale. I will be returning later today to use the 20% off coupon to purchase the calendar and some hooks I need for my garage organization project.

Download the coupon here (PDF). You can print it as many times as you need between now and March 1.

Here are the sale items I purchased at the Container Store:

In addition to the fridge calendar that Erin showed us, the Container Store sells a dry erase wall calendar with a magnetic surface. It’s not as convenient as the fridge calendar since you have to hang it using tacks or nails, but it will be useful at my office, so I got one. The blue one is 55% off ($8.97) and the white and gray ones are 25% off ($14.99). If you want to save some money and have wall space for the calendar, this would be a cheaper alternative to the refrigerator calendar.

I also purchased a 13-pocket accordion receipt file for $4.99 (reg. $6.99). Probably not a great deal, but I save all my receipts and scan them with my Neat Receipt. I have a clear, plastic shoe box where I store receipts until I can scan them, but I like the idea of keeping my receipts organized by month, so this accordion file will come in handy.
